Returns, Refunds & Replacements

Every What The Type order is made by hand, just for you: typed, printed and packed around your words and photos. Because of that, we work a little differently from regular stores.

Cancellations
Orders can't be cancelled once they're placed. We start preparing your order soon after you check out, so please review your personalisation details carefully before you pay.

Returns & refunds
Since every piece is personalised, we don't accept returns or offer refunds, including for change of mind.

If we can't make your order for any reason on our side, we'll let you know and refund you in full to your original payment method.

Damaged in transit? We'll replace it, free.
If your order arrives damaged, we'll send you a free replacement at no extra cost. Here's how:

  1. Record an unboxing video from the moment you open the sealed package. It should be one continuous video with no cuts or pauses.
  2. Message us within 24 hours of delivery with the video and clear photos of the damage.
  3. Once we approve the claim, repack the damaged item. We'll arrange the return at no cost to you.
  4. As soon as we receive it, we'll make and ship your replacement.

We can't accept claims made after 24 hours or without an unboxing video.

Undelivered orders (RTO)
If your parcel is returned to us because it couldn't be delivered, we'll get in touch to reship it. This includes an incorrect or incomplete address, no one being available to receive it, the parcel being refused, or calls from the courier going unanswered. Before we reship, you'll need to pay the return-to-origin (RTO) charges plus the cost of shipping it again.

What isn't covered

  • Spelling, grammar or content errors in text or photos you submitted. We reproduce your words exactly as you send them.
  • Small variations in colour, texture or typewriter impressions. These are part of what makes a handmade piece unique.
  • Delays caused by courier partners after your order has shipped.
